The Green Manalishi - Peter Green's.............
Fleetwood Mac

Has a song ever told the despair and "fucked up-ness" better?

Watch the documentary when they talk about the German cult that was waiting for him when he landed for a gig and they took him away, was never the same again......

EPIC

On some of the video footage regarding 'The Munich Incident' there is a bald-headed man with a white beard and a slightly camp accent holding a guitar.

Who is he? I thought he was one of the other guitarists

Saw Peter Green live on his Peter Green and Friends tour about 3 years ago. Very enjoyable gig, he can still play although the band looked a bit nervous at times that he mightn't be up to it.

Sadly, I reckon that Danny Kirwen was the saddest psychedelic disaster that I ever met. About 10 minutes of his pretty much incoherent ramblings was more than enough for anyone.

Not that I ever met Peter Green (who Danny insisted had taken over his mind). But I do remember PG holding down a job as a hospital porter in the Highgate Hospital for a few years

Maybe you guys already knew it but I am starting to realise the gravity of this band, they are never meniotned alongside Beatles and Rolling Stones but outsold them late 60s. Apparently you could put the other two bands income together and they quashed it.

I grew up on them but never realised just how big they were.

to recover with different line ups as well is admirable and as Northern said, as much as Peter Green is the legend that is, Rumours was just fucking brilliant

I used to chat with Danny Kirwan in the pub when he was living in a hostel near Covent Garden. He never talked about music, etc, and for a couple of years we didn't even know who he was, just a bloke who'd fallen on hard times. He talked a lot about places he'd visited, Japan, San Francisco, etc, so I wondered if he'd been a seaman! It was hard to get much sense from him, so there was no point in asking.

Apparently Mick Fleetwood tracked him down and was trying to help him. I'd be glad to hear that he's ok. It was hard to imagine him as the baby-faced guitarist in the pictures. Once we learned who he was and he occasionally talked of the old days it was clear that he regarded Peter Green as a genius.

Girly FM or the original?

The members of the original FM all get along fine now, as far as I know. Even Danny Kirwan is being looked after properly.

Funniest story I've heard about Peter Green....

He was making some Splinter Group comeback recordings in the late 90s. He was still a bit fragile and, even though he'd played and sung well enough on the basic sessions, he kept having bizarre flights of fancy about mixing and production.... so much so his band, including the late Cozy Powell, needed to find some distractions to keep Peter away from the mixing desk.

An assortment of "gentleman's literature" was acquired. Peter would apparently leave proceedings alone only when he was given his favourite - "Razzle".

So how come Peter green sounds like a breaking heart and Gary Moore sounds like a guy showing off on a guitar?

Re: The Green Manalishi - Peter Green's.............
Sorry Steve, you already mentioned that

Re: The Green Manalishi - Peter Green's.............
He wanted to give all his royalties to starving kids in Africa, that alone makes him a true Gentleman in my opinion.

What I really loved about him, was that unique tone he played on his Les Paul, which actually ended up in Gary Moore's possession.
